HALH Annual Symposium: 'Women in Hertfordshire'

The Hertfordshire Association for Local History's 38th Annual Symposium will be held in Hitchin on Saturday 11 November 2017. Several members of the Society will be speaking at the event, including Jane Kelsall, Elizabeth Eastwood and members of the Home Front Group.

12.30 Village Music: The Chiltern West Gallery Quire will perform a selection of Militia marches and dance tunes from the time of Jane Austen (1750–1840)

1.00 LUNCH – An opportunity to explore the displays and classrooms in the Museum or visit St Mary’s Parish Church

2.30 Pioneering Women of Girton College - Val Campion

3.10 Three Forgotten St Albans Heroines of World War I: Introduction (Maggy Douglas); Lady Grimston (Patricia Broad); Silvia Glossop (Sheila Green) and Edith Garrett (Anne Wares)

3.50 Dolly Shepherd, Balloon Queen and Car Mechanic at the Front in France during World War I (Jackie Lawn and Philip Sheail)

  • Tickets £12 for members of HALH; £15 for non-members.
