Herts at War Talks 2017/18

Free talks about First World War military history

The organisers of the 'Herts at War' project are pleased to announce the return of their successful series of military talks launched in September 2017. The venue for the talks, held on the third Wednesday of each month, is the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield. The programme consists of some of the country's leading military historians discussing a wide range of subjects relating to the First World War.

These are the talks:

20 September 2017 - 'Voices of the Great War' - Max Arthur

18 October 2017 - 'Passchendaele' - Alexandra Churchill

15 November 2017 - 'Tanks in the Great War' - Lt. Col. Gareth Davies

13 December 2017 - 'The History and Works of the CWGC' - Glenn Hearnden

17 January 2018 - 'Arras' - Andrew Lock

21 February 2018 - 'Shot at Dawn' - Dr John Greenacre

21 March 2018 - 'The German Spring Offensive' - Chris Baker


  • You will need a car park pass for the University. If you do not receive this after booking, contact jontywild@hertsatwar.co.uk. Passes should be available on the evening from the gate and/or reception, but that will delay you.
  • The talks are free to attend, but if you appreciate what you hear please donate to enable the project to continue.
  • Talks will commence at 7.30pm with doors open from 7pm.
